What is powder coating?
Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing powder. The coating is applied electrostatically and then is cured under high heat, which can exceed 350° F. Powder is used on a wide array of products and more and more companies specify powder coatings for a high-quality, durable finish, allowing for maximized production
What can be powder coated?
At New Age Powder coating we can coat most metal objects that can hold the electrostatic charge. We do not powder coat non-metal items.
How do you prepare parts for powder coating?
New Age Powder Coating will prepare the metal prior to coating. Some clients ask us if we can powder coat their bare-metal project. We always recommend treating the surface prior by blasting for the best coating outcome. Clean metal by itself can be immediately powder coated but this is and shortcut that will not give you superior performance. A good, clean metal surface prior to powder coating allows the coating to better bond physically to the metal. Because of all the benefits associated with it, New Age Powder Coating will always blast the metal before coating.
What about sensitive areas that cannot be coated?
Special high temperature masking tape can be applied to most surfaces such as
threading or tolerance areas to avoid coating. We may also use high temperature silicone plugs to protect galleries, threaded holes or shafts as needed.
Before you bring the parts to us, please remove any rubber, plastics, gaskets, bearings, and other parts that are sensitive to 350° F temperature including excess oil and grease.
